HOUSTON — A black Houston woman is suing operators of a local McDonald's restaurant, alleging discrimination, retaliation and wrongful discharge.

Michelle Murray filed a lawsuit Oct. 31 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Wymer Enterprise Inc. and Wymer Management doing business as McDonald's, alleging violation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 12, Murray was discharged from her employment as a general manager at a McDonald's in Houston. Prior to that, the suit says, Murray was subjected to different terms and conditions of employment privileges and was prevented from being promoted due to her race and gender.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to adequately train, supervise and discipline its management and supervisors concerning employment discrimination and failed to provide reasonable accommodation for her medical condition of stress.

Murray seeks trial by jury, all damages, reinstatement, attorney fees, pre- and post-judgment interest and all other equitable relief. She is represented by attorney LaShawn A. Williams of Baldwin Jones & Williams PLLC in Houston.
