BEAUMONT — A teacher is suing a Beaumont school district property inspector and maintenance providers, alleging their negligence led to her being exposed to mold.
Ashli Feacher of Beaumont filed a lawsuit Nov. 7 in Jefferson County District Court against EMSL Analytical Inc. and Total Safety US Inc., alleging they breached their duty to properly inspect and maintain the premises.
According to the complaint, on Dec. 13, 2015, Feacher was hospitalized due to exposure to mold while performing her work as a teacher at Vincent Middle School in Beaumont. The suit says her exposure to mold and other contaminants caused her severe physical illness such as aggravation of her pre-existing sickle cell disease.
The lawsuit states Feacher has experienced medical expenses, mental anguish, pain and suffering and loss of earnings. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly inspect the premises, failed to correct the dangerous condition and failed to properly train and supervise their employees.
Feacher seeks trial by jury, judgment for all damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, pre- and post-judgment interest, and all other relief to which she is justly entitled. She is represented by attorneys James E. Payne and Ronnie Turner Jr. of Provost * Umphrey Law Firm LLP in Beaumont.
