Children blame shipyard operator for father's death

GALVESTON — The children of a man killed in a shipyard accident are suing a shipyard operator, alleging the defendant's gross negligence caused the death. 

Kyndra Jordan and Casey Jordan of Galveston, individually and as representative of the estate of Padrick Jordan, filed a lawsuit Dec. 9 in Galveston County District Court against Malin International Ship Repair & Drydock Inc., alleging failure to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 18, 2014, Padrick Jordan was killed while working at the defendant's shipyard while repairing a cable-laying vessel. The suit says he died after he fell while attempting to use a defective ladder supplied by Malin International.

The Jordan children say the suffered loss of love, society and support of a loving father, physical and mental pain. The allege Malin International negligently supplied Padrick Jordan with a defective ladder and failed to mandate employees to use safety harnesses.

The Jordans seek trial by jury, monetary relief between $1 million and $10 million, together with interest, attorney fees, costs of court and all other equitable relief. They are represented by attorney David Dies of Dies & Parkhurst LLP in Orange, Texas.
