BEAUMONT – A total of 20 companies, a list that includes, BP, Chevron USA and Texaco, were recently named in a benzene lawsuit.

Plaintiffs Daniel and Renee Sikes filed their suit Dec. 29 in Jefferson County District Court.

Other defendants named in the suit include: Atlantic Richfield, BASF, Citgo, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Shell, Sunoco, Total, Union Oil and Valero.

According to the petition, from 1976 to 2013, Daniel Sikes was exposed to benzene while working at the Sunoco facility in Nederland, causing him to contract Non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Daniel Sikes alleges the defendants negligently exposed him and failed to warn of the dangers of benzene products.

The plaintiffs are seeking an award of punitive damages.

They are represented by D’Juana Parks and Keith Hyde, attorneys for the Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. E-199417
