GALVESTON — An institute director is suing his former employer, University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), citing alleged retaliation, discrimination and harassment.
Dr. Howard Brody filed a complaint on Dec. 22 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against University of Texas Medical Branch, alleging that the employer violated Title VII and Title IX of the Civil Rights Act. He had served as director of UTMB's Institute of Medical Humanities.
The plaintiff alleges in the lawsuit that as a result of the university's retaliation for participating in an investigation of another professor, Brody suffered economic and noneconomic damages. The plaintiff holds UTMB responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected him to adverse actions, treatment, and conditions of employment, by suspending him for one year, reducing his compensation by nearly 50 percent and forcing him to attend training at his own expense.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory, punitive and economic damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorneys’ fees and costs and all other relief available. He is represented by Katherine T. Mize of Mize PC in Houston.
