Rig mechanic blames employers for injuries

Oilrig 06

HOUSTON — A New Zealand man is suing offshore oil rig operators, alleging their negligence led to the plaintiff suffering injuries.

Tom Brighouse filed a complaint Dec. 28 in Harris County District Court against Megadrill Services Limited, MD Nigeria LLC, Depthwize Nigeria Limited and Robert P. Dunn, alleging failure to provide a seaworthy vessel.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 11, 2015, Brighouse was injured while working aboard the defendants' Rig Monarch off the coast of Nigeria when he fell due to slippery flooring. The suit says he suffered serious and debilitating injuries.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to install non-skid or non-slip surface on the vessel's walkway and failed to provide maintenance and cure benefits.

Brighouse seeks trial by jury, monetary relief of more than  $1 million and all other appropriate relief. He is represented by attorneys Michael Patrick Doyle, Patrick M. Dennis and Jeffrey Avery of Doyle Trial Lawyers in Houston.
