HOUSTON — A Pasadena man is suing a petrochemical plant operator, alleging its negligence caused him to suffer a severe hand injury.

Arturo Estrada filed a complaint Jan. 31 in Harris County District Court against Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA Inc., alleging failure to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 25, 2016, Estrada was employed by SGS Petroleum Service Corp. working in and around a bag feeder at the defendant's petrochemical plant in La Porte.  The suit says he was instructed by a Total Petrochemical employee to clear the feeder, which has become jammed with large pieces of plastic. In doing so, the lawsuit states, Estrada struck his head and fell, causing his left hand to make contact with the feeder and losing four fingers.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant improperly designed, laid out and maintained the plant and failed to adequately warn him about the unreasonably dangerous condition.

Estrada seeks trial by jury, monetary relief up to $1 million and all other equitable relief. He is represented by attorneys Ryan H. Zehl and Kevin C. Hayes of Zehl & Associates PC in Houston.
