Pedestrian accuses Beaumont motorist of negligence

BEAUMONT — A Jefferson County woman is suing a Beaumont motorist, alleging her negligence caused injuries to the plaintiff.

Joan Jagana filed a complaint Feb. 6 in Jefferson County District Court against Susie Bowman Cormier, alleging failure to safely operate her vehicle.

According to the complaint, on June 25, 2015, Jagana was walking north in the 5000 block of Concord in Jefferson County when Cormier, who was operating a motor vehicle, negligently collided with the plaintiff.

The suit says Jagana sustained serious injuries that resulted in medical expenses, physical and mental pain and lost wages. The plaintiff alleges Cormier failed to maintain a careful lookout, failed to keep proper distance and failed to yield right of way.

Janaga seeks trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, and all other just relief. She is represented by attorneys John Arthur Daspit and Jeff Limmer of Daspit Law Firm in Houston.
