HOUSTON — A black Harris County woman is suing Wal-Mart, alleging discrimination and retaliation.
Joyce Green filed a complaint Feb. 13 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and WalMart Transportation LLC, alleging violation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
According to the complaint, Wal-Mart's discriminatory conduct caused Green to suffer lost wages and fringe benefits, mental anguish and stress. The plaintiff alleges the defendants subjected her to adverse employment actions and a hostile work environment at the Walmart distribution center in Sealy and retaliated against her by terminating her employment Oct. 20, 2016, for engaging in protected activity.
Green seeks trial by jury, compensatory, liquidated and punitive damages, attorney fees and court costs, pre and post-judgment interest and all other necessary and proper relief. She is represented by attorney Jay D. Ellwanger of DiNovo Price Ellwanger & Hardy LLP in Austin.
