Service technician blames platform operators for injuries

Oilrig 01

GALVESTON — A Louisiana service technician is suing oil platform operators, alleging their negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Steven Jacobs filed a complaint Feb. 16 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Fieldwood Energy LLC, GOM Shelf LLC and Wood Group PSN Inc., alleging they failed to ensure that work being done by all contractors was done in a safe and prudent manner.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 17, 2016, Jacobs was working as a service technician for Louisiana Safety Systems when he was seriously injured when he slipped and fell while traversing the stairs on the defendants' Platform GI47-L.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to maintain the platform in a reasonably safe condition, free from hazards.

Jacobs seeks trial by jury, judgment, jointly and severally, in an amount exceeding the jurisdictional limits of the court, interest, punitive damages, attorney fees, court costs and all other appropriate relief. He is represented by attorneys Marcus R. Spagnoletti and Mary Holmesly of Spagnoletti & Co. in Houston.
