Longshoreman sues vessel and crane operators

HOUSTON — A longshoreman is suing Jumbo Offshore USA LLC & Universal Landsea Transport Inc., vessel and crane owners, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Franchae Norman filed a complaint on March 1, in the Harris County District Court against the defendants alleging that they breached their duty to safely perform crane operation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in June 14, 2016, she was working as a longshoreman at the Port of Houston when defendants crane operator lost control of its load and struck plaintiff. She sustained severe injuries to her head, neck, back and other parts of the body. The plaintiff holds Jumbo Offshore USA LLC & Universal Landsea Transport Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to ensure proper lifting and rigging techniques and failed to ensure that proper crew was used.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $5 million, exemplary damages, court costs and all other just and proper relief. She is represented by Anthony G. Buzbee and Christopher J. Leavitt of The Buzbee Law Firm in Houston.
