MARSHALL — A Wood County maintenance worker is suing the county, alleging discrimination, hostile work environment and retaliation.
Wanda Jean Garrett of Winnsboro filed a complaint April 3 in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Wood County alleging that the political subdivision violated the Age Discrimination Employment Act.
According to the complaint, as a result of the county's conduct, Garrett, who worked for the county from 2005 to 2016 when she was injured on the job, was caused to suffer lost wages and benefits, emotional pain and suffering, mental anguish and/or other non-pecuniary losses. The plaintiff alleges Wood County refused to provide reasonable accommodation when she developed a diabetic foot ulcer, subjected her to unlawful discrimination based on her disability and age (55) and retaliated against her for opposing unlawful employment practices.
Garrett seeks trial by jury, reinstatement to her former position, compensatory and statutory damages, liquidated damages, attorney fees, court costs, interest and all other equitable relief. She is represented by attorney John E. Wall, Jr. of The Law Offices of John E. Wall, Jr. in Dallas.
