HOUSTON – AutoZone faces a lawsuit from an employee who claims she was injured on the job two years ago while trying to stop a shoplifter.

Houston resident Cindy Franco explains in the suit filed May 3 in the Harris County 11th District Court that she witnessed the individual steal several buckets of motor oil from her employer’s store located at 15831 S. Post Oak Blvd. and was prompted to take action on the afternoon of May 7, 2015.

Despite her lack of training and knowledge of company policy, the complaint states, Franco confronted the customer outside of the establishment in an attempt to have them return the merchandise.

Court documents further assert the shoplifter ignored the plaintiff’s demands and placed the items in the front passenger side seat of a parked vehicle. Per Franco, she tried to recover the buckets when the customer unexpectedly accelerated the vehicle at a high speed.

Franco claims the car dragged her into the middle of the store’s parking lot, causing her to suffer multiple injuries.

A jury trial is requested.

Attorneys Micky N. Das and Timothy S. Hart of the law firm Tyler & Das in Houston are representing the complainant.
