HOUSTON — A longtime employee is suing Texas Southern, alleging discrimination and retaliation.
Michele Taylor filed a complaint May 18 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Texas Southern University, alleging violation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the Equal Pay Act.
According to the complaint, Taylor, who began working for Texas Southern in 1974 as a student, suffered damages for not getting equal pay and for being denied promotion to a higher position for which she was qualified. The plaintiff alleges Texas Southern subjected Taylor to continuing discrimination and retaliation due to a previously filed charge of discrimination.
Taylor seeks trial by jury, compensatory, liquidated and exemplary damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and attorney fees and all other just and proper relief. She is represented by attorney LaShawn A. Williams of Baldwin Williams & Associates PLLC in Houston.
