HOUSTON — A county employee is suing Harris County, alleging age discrimination and wrongful termination.
Carmen Laffey filed a complaint May 18 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Harris County, alleging violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
According to the complaint, on Feb. 4, 2016, Laffey, 52, was terminated from her employment as an investigator in the Harris County Public Defender's Office due to her age. Laffey says she has suffered and continues to suffer, damages for lost wages and fringe benefits, emotional pain, suffering, inconvenience, mental anguish and loss of enjoyment of life.
The plaintiff alleges Harris County wrongfully terminated her employment and replaced her with a younger (34) and less-qualified individual.
Laffey seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, back pay, attorney and expert fees, costs of suit and all other legal and equitable relief. She is represented by attorneys Kalandra N. Wheeler and Robert J. Wiley of Rob Wiley PC in Houston.
