BEAUMONT — A Texas consumer is suing a debt collector, alleging violation of telephone harassment statutes.

Tracy Barefield of Cleveland, Texas, filed a complaint May 24 in the Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Transworld Systems Inc., alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, as a result of the defendant's wrongful conduct, Barefield was annoyed, harassed, inconvenienced and abused. The plaintiff alleges Transworld Systems repeatedly contacted her in an attempt to collect a debt owed by her former husband.

Barefield seeks trial by jury, actual and compensatory damages, statutory damages of $1,000, attorney fees, court costs and all other appropriate relief. She is represented by attorney Amy L. B. Ginsburg of Kimmel & Silverman PC in Ambler, Pennsylvania.
