BEAUMONT — A Jefferson County customer is suing the Toro lawnmower company, a retailer and a vendor, alleging negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Ricky Ruffin filed a complaint May 18 in Jefferson County District Court against The Toro Company, Conn Appliances Inc., Professional Turf Products LP and Peter Rubin, alleging they failed to meet or exceed internal corporate guidelines.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 21, 2016, Ruffin sustained serious injuries when the Toro TimeCutter SS 5000 lawnmower he was loading onto a trailer tipped over and fell on him. Ruffin says he suffered injuries to his back, right shoulder, left elbow and head, plus pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses and lost wages.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to outfit the Toro lawnmower with proper safety features and failed to disclose the known dangers or defects in the lawnmower.

Ruffin seeks trial by jury, monetary relief of more than $1 million and all other general and specific relief. He is represented by attorney Muhammad S. Aziz of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Aziz in Houston.
