MARSHALL — A Longview woman is suing a payday loan company, citing alleged discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.
Lizabeth Ann Brown filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas Marshall Division against Cottonwood Financial Texas LLC alleging that the payday loan company violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Equal Pay Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 9, 2015, she was terminated from her job as a regional manager for the defendant. The plaintiff claims she suffered lost wages and benefits, front pay, emotional distress and mental anguish.
The plaintiff holds Cottonwood Financial Texas responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected the plaintiff to age and gender and discrimination and retaliated against her for asserting her rights.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory, punitive and liquidated damages, attorney’s fees, expert fees and costs and other relief. She is represented by William S. Hommel Jr. of Hommel Law Firm in Tyler.
