Patient blames medical care providers for eye injuries

Medical malpractice 06

HOUSTON — A Houston woman is suing medical care providers, alleging their negligence injured her eye.

Karalyn Currie filed a complaint June 12 in Harris County District Court against Emily Su and Dr. Federico Luis Mattioli, alleging they breached the standard of care in evaluating her for surgical procedure and for performing eye surgery.

According to the complaint, on July 22, 2016, Currie underwent LASIK eye surgery for vision correction under the defendants' care. As a result of defendants negligence, the suit says, Currie suffered significant cornea scarring and is now severely impaired and unable to perform her job functions.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide adequate disclosures regarding the risk associated with the LASIK eye surgery.

Currie seeks trial by jury, monetary relief of more than $1 million and all other lawful, special and equitable relief. She is represented by attorney M. Kevin Powers of Porter & Powers PLLC in Houston.
