Consumer accuses debt collector of deceptive practices

HOUSTON — A Tarrant County woman is suing a debt collector, alleging false and deceptive debt collection practices.

Sharmona Council of Crowley, Texas, filed a complaint June 14 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against GC Services LP, alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.

According to the complaint, as a result of GC Services' unlawful practices, Council has been damaged. The plaintiff alleges GC Services failed to disclose the distinction between principal and interest in regards to IRS requirements regarding Council's debt.

Council seeks trial by jury, actual and statutory damages, attorney fees and court costs and all other just and proper relief. She is represented by attorney Michael Jay Ringelheim of RC Law Group PLLC in Hackensack, New Jersey.
