HOUSTON – A Harris County man alleges his thumb was partially severed because of a defectively designed crossbow.

James Shaffer filed a complaint on July 24 in the Harris County District Court against Barnett Outdoors LLC and Native Outdoors LLC alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in September 2016, he sustained severe, permanent and debilitating injuries when the string of defendants' Buck Commander crossbow he was using struck his thumb.

The plaintiff holds Barnett Outdoors LLC and Native Outdoors LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to warn users of the known dangers associated with the use of their products and manufactured and designed the crossbow without an adequate thumb guard.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants with interest, costs of court and such other relief to which he may be entitled. He is represented by Clifford D. Peel II of Clifford D. Peel II PLLC in Houston.
