Offshore Marine Contractors seaman alleges injures while working during tropical storm

HOUSTON – A Louisiana man is seeking damages after he was injured while working aboard a vessel during Tropical Storm Hermine.

Kurtis Young filed a complaint on Aug. 2 in the Harris County District Court against Freeport-McMoRan Oil & Gas LLC, Offshore Marine Contractors Inc. and M/V Raimy Emard alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is an employee of Offshore and alleges that on Aug. 9, 2016, he was working on the M/V Raimy Emard was severely injured by a falling ladder while cleaning the deck of the vessel.

The plaintiff holds Freeport-McMoRan Oil & Gas LLC, Offshore Marine Contractors Inc. and M/V Raimy Emard responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide adequate safety for the crew and failed to take appropriate measures during a tropical storm.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $200,000 but not more than $1 million and such other just and proper relief. He is represented by Michael E. Pierce and James P. Lamey of Pierce Skrabanek PLLC in Houston.
