Patient alleges hospital failed to remove malignant lymph nodes

Medical malpractice 09

HOUSTON – A Saudi Arabian woman alleges she was incorrectly told she was cancer free after a surgical procedure.

Bassam Al Saadi and Ikram K. Aljbour filed a complaint on Aug. 2 in the Harris County District Court against The University of Texas Health Science Center Houston and The University of Texas System alleging negligence and medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, Aljbour sought treatment for breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy in December 2015. The plaintiffs allege that the defendants' employees failed to detect malignant lymph nodes, which caused a 50-day delay in treating Aljbour's cancer, another surgery that cost $26,000 and travel expenses to return and stay in the U.S.

The plaintiffs seek actual and special damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and such other legal and equitable relief. They are represented by David K. Mestemaker of Mestemaker & Straub in Houston.
