Beaumont property owners allege that claim was improperly adjusted

Insurance 02

BEAUMONT – A Jefferson County couple claims their insurer failed to pay the full proceeds of their insurance policy to repair damages to their home.

David Gaus and Melissa Gaus filed a complaint on Aug. 9 in the Jefferson County District Court against USAA Casualty Insurance Company, IAS Claim Services Inc. and Charles Louis "Kip" Halley

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that their Beaumont property was damaged in a windstorm in June 2016 and filed a claim with USAA. The suit states Halley was assigned as the adjuster of the claim and that he performed a substandard investigation of the plaintiffs' claim.

The plaintiffs allege that their claim was improperly adjusted as a result of Halley's report and that they were denied adequate and sufficient payment to repair their home.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek monetary relief of more than $100,000 but less than $200,000 and such other relief to which they may show themselves justly entitled. They are represented by Michael R. Ramsey and Katherine Ramsey of Ramsey Law Firm in Beaumont.
