Appraisal district faces age discrimination suit from former employee

Wrongful term 01

HOUSTON – The Colorado County Appraisal District faces a federal lawsuit alleging age discrimination from a former employee.

Leona Lange sued the CCAD in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas on Aug. 16, stating she was terminated last February.

Recent court documents explain that Lange, 77, worked for the defendant for approximately 20 years.

Earlier this year, the original petition says, Lange’s supervisor told her she was “getting too old” and she could work through February.

The plaintiff asserts the CCAD retained her younger colleagues, as well as treated them more favorably.

She adds her pay was lesser than that of the aforementioned colleagues.

“The plaintiff was never told that her job was in jeopardy until the statements made about plaintiff’s age,” the suit says.

Consequently, Lange seeks the reinstatement of her position and unspecified monetary damages.

A jury trial is also requested.

Attorneys Phillip Durst and Matt Bachop of the law firm Deats Durst & Owen, P.L.L.C. in Austin are representing the complainant.
