HOUSTON – A Harris County couple is seeking more than $1 million in damages over burns allegedly caused by a grill.

Steve Lee and Sandra Lee filed a complaint on Sept. 13 in the Harris County District Court against Nexgrill Industries Inc. alleging design defect, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, on July 4, 2016, Steve Lee was severely injured when the charcoal-burning compartment of his Nexgrill Industries' grill corroded and gave way and permitted hot burning coils to come into contact with an aerosol can in the storage compartment. The suit states this action caused the can to explode, resulting in second and third-degree burns to Steve Lee's body. Sandra Lee alleges she has suffered a loss of companionship and consortium of her husband.

The plaintiffs hold Nexgrill Industries Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly design the grill and used poor quality materials in its construction.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek monetary relief of more than $1 million and such other relief to which they may show themselves justly entitled. They are represented by Kelly M. Woods and Brant Stogner of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Aziz in Houston.
