HOUSTON — An employee who alleges his fingers were sliced off by a defective meat saw is suing Bama La Vaquita USA LLC, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries at the defendant's meat market.

Jose G. Perez Jr. of Baytown filed a complaint on Sept. 29 in the Harris County District Court against Bama La Vaquita, alleging that the Texas corporation failed to provide a safe working environment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 29, 2017, he sustained severe, permanent and debilitating injuries while in the course and scope of his employment with defendant when his fingers were sliced off by an electric meat saw. He has suffered pain and suffering, disfigurement, lost wages and substantial medical expenses, the complaint said. The plaintiff holds Bama La Vaquita responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide proper training on how to safely use the meat saw, failed to provide safety equipment and failed to maintain workers' compensation insurance.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant with interest, court fees and such other lawful and equitable relief. He is represented by Clifford D. Peel II of the Peel Law Firm in Houston.
