Greek seaman seeks $10 million in relief from Future Kare

Medical malpractice 04

HOUSTON – A Greek seaman alleges that a New York company prevented him from continuing treatment at a Houston health facility after he was injured in the course of his duties.

Ioannis Nikolaos Pelagidis filed a complaint on Oct. 5 in the Harris County District Court against Future Kare Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 21, 2016, he sustained catastrophic injuries while in the course and scope of his employment working aboard the M/T United Ambassador's tank when a metallic object hit him in the face after a pressured part aboard the tank exploded. He alleges he suffered brain trauma, facial fractures and loss of vision and incurred reasonable and necessary medical expenses.

The plaintiff holds Future Kare Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to continue with its obligation to provide maintenance and cure to the plaintiff before he achieved maximum medical improvement.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of $10 million plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and such other lawful and equitable relief. He is represented by Anthony G. Buzbee and Caroline E. Adams of The Buzbee Law Firm in Houston and Francis L. Spagnoletti of Spagnoletti & Co. in Houston.
