Man alleges he was terminated from employment with Port Arthur because of race

Wrongful term 08

BEAUMONT – A former city of Port Arthur employee alleges he was terminated because of his race.

Sam Collins filed a complaint on Oct. 23 in the Jefferson County District Court against the city of Port Arthur alleging that the government entity violated Article One, Sections 3, 8 and 19 of the Texas Constitution.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was terminated by the defendant because he is African-American. He alleges the defendant "fabricated reasons" to terminate him in November 2015. He alleges he was reinstated in February 2016 but was demoted to a position that paid less.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks declaratory and equitable relief of more than $200,000, reinstatement and all other relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by Laurence "Larry" Watts of Watts & Co. Lawyers LTD in Missouri City.
