HOUSTON – A Harris County woman has filed a product liability lawsuit after she sustained injuries while chewing gum last March.

Nan Sun’s suit, which was filed on Dec. 8 in the Harris County 189th District Court, accuses Mondelez Global LLC of selling a piece of Trident Gum laced with glass shards.

Sun reportedly purchased a multipack box including the subject piece at a Costco store in Houston last Mar. 10.

According to recent court papers, Sun immediately felt “excruciating pain and high sensitivity in her gums” after she began chewing. The plaintiff then spat the gum out and discovered jagged edged and sharpened shards of glass in it, the original petition says.

The product allegedly caused damage to the plaintiff’s teeth.

Consequently, she seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Attorneys Tej. R. Paranjpe and Benjamin H. Ruemke of the law firm Paranjpe & Mahadass LLP in Houston are representing the complainant.
