BEAUMONT – An automobile collision lawsuit over an unsafe lane change settled the day the case was suppose to go to trial.

Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Todd Cartwright filed suit against Joanne Ferrell on July 14, 2016, in Jefferson County District Court.

The case was called up for trial Jan. 8 but settled before a jury could be selected, according to a courthouse official.

In his lawsuit, Cartwright alleged that on June 28, 2016, he was traveling south on I-10 when Ferrell, who was in the lane next to him, changed lanes and struck his vehicle.

He accused the defendant of negligently making an unsafe lane change and failing to yield the right of way.

Cartwright was suing for his past and future pain, mental anguish, medical expenses and impairment.

Beaumont attorney Cody Rees represents him.

Judge Justin Sanderson, 60th District Court, is presiding over the case.
