GALVESTON – A Harris County woman’s stay at a local hotel last year has resulted in litigation over a purported canine attack.

In a lawsuit filed against Orange Lake Holdings, doing business as Holiday Inn’s Silverleaf Seaside Resort & Holiday Inn Club Vacations Galveston Seaside Resort, on Feb. 8 in the Galveston County 212th District Court, Lilia Garcia-Sharp alleges a fellow guest’s dog bit her as she was standing on a balcony or landing of a stairwell.

Garcia-Sharp asserts the incident in question occurred unprovoked.

The suit faults the resort, which reportedly maintains a policy allowing dogs of owners and guests to roam in and about the premises, for not implementing proper screening procedures.

Debbie Edwards Kyles, the owner of the dog that attacked Garcia-Sharp, is a co-defendant in the case.

Consequently, the complainant seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

She is represented by Michael G. Martinez of Friendswood.
