Smith Co. woman sues Tyler TV station for defamation, claims reports about her being a burglary suspect are false

MARSHALL – A Tyler ABC affiliate faces a defamation suit from a Smith County woman who claims it reported about her being a suspected burglar, recent Marshall federal court records show.

Alexis Foster filed the suit against KLTV on Feb. 23, asserting the station wrongfully conveyed on air, the Internet, and on social media that she had engaged in criminal activity.

Court papers say the station’s reports listed her as the suspect in three burglaries, namely at 1041 North Northeast Loop 323, 108 Shelly Drive, and 2701 West Southwest Loop 323.

Foster’s picture was allegedly included in the aforementioned reports. She claims the defendant refused to offer an apology and a retraction.

Consequently, the plaintiff seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

She is represented by Jimmy M. Negem and Joe M. Worthington of the law firm Negem & Worthington, P.C. in Tyler.
