HOUSTON – Asserting her former employer’s tardiness policy is harsher on non-white workers, Houston resident Denella Hawkins has filed a lawsuit.

Court documents filed against Achilles Information Inc. on Mar. 2 in the Harris County 269th District Court claim Hawkins was terminated for violating the policy while her non-black counterparts who did the same were not disciplined.

The plaintiff recalls an instance on May 25, 2016 in which she contacted her immediate supervisor and informed him that she was running late because of a major accident on her way to work in accordance to the aforementioned policy.

Achilles reportedly terminated Hawkins for excessive tardiness though the suit states that her personnel file does not contain documentation of such offense.

The suit further explains that the plaintiff unsuccessfully raised the issue with her supervisor at the time of her termination.

Consequently, she seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Chukwudi Egbuonu of the Law Office of Chukwudi Egbuonu in Houston is representing the complainant.
