Patient alleges North Cypress Medical Center Operating Co. charges were 'unreasonable'

Law money 10

HOUSTON – A Harris County man alleges he was billed "unreasonable charges" for treatment he received at a medical center after an auto accident.

Tommy Burrell filed a complaint on March 1 in the Harris County District Court against North Cypress Medical Center Operating Co. LTD alleging that the medical service provider violated the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 8, 2017, he was injured in a vehicle accident and was transported via ambulance to defendant's Houston Northwest Medical Center. The suit states he did not request to be transported and was never admitted to the hospital. He was discharged not long after and was billed in the amount of $42,407.92, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds North Cypress Medical Center Operating Co. LTD responsible because he alleges the defendant charged "unreasonable charges" and filed a fraudulent hospital lien.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order declaring defendant's lien is invalid and it exceeds the regular charges for similar services, award for damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney's fees, costs and such other lawful and equitable relief. He is represented by Shonda M. Jones in Houston.
