GALVESTON – A female police officer alleges she was passed over for promotion in favor of a less-qualified male officer.

Carmen M. Parker filed a complaint on March 12 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against the board of trustees of the Galveston Wharves alleging gender discrimination.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is the sole female supervisor and one of two female officers for the defendant's police force. She alleges that despite being qualified for a higher position, she was passed over for promotional opportunities in favor of less-qualified male employees.

The plaintiff holds the board of trustees of the Galveston Wharves responsible because her gender allegedly was a factor in the defendant's purported adverse employment actions.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees and costs and such other proper and equitable relief. She is represented by David R. Schleicher of Schleicher Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
