BEAUMONT – A local woman is suing Dollar Tree Stores for injures she allegedly received two years ago when she slipped on some cardboard.

Seeking up to $200,000 in damages, Verline Pierce filed her suit March 12 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on April 1, 2016 Pierce was shopping at the Dollar Tree in Beaumont off of the Eastex Freeway when she slipped and fell due to cardboard debris left in the middle of an aisle.

“There were no warning signs in or around the area,” the suit claims. “The incident resulted in serious injuries and damages.”

Pierce allegedly suffered “debilitating pain” to her back and knees and asserts Dollar General had a duty to safeguard her against the dangerous condition.

She is suing for her past and future medical expenses, lost earnings, impairment, pain, mental anguish and disfigurement.

Beaumont attorney Jonathan Juhan represents her.

Judge Kent Walston, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. A-201454
