BEAUMONT – A Port Arthur couple has filed suit against the husband's former employer over allegations he was terminated after he was injured while working.

Miguel Ceja and Emilia M. Ceja filed a complaint on March 16 in the Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Gulf Copper & Manufacturing Corp. citing the Longshoreman and Harbor Workers Compensation Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Nov. 2, 2017, Miguel Ceja sustained serious, painful and disabling injuries to his dominant right hand while in the course and scope of his employment for the defendant.

The plaintiffs holds Gulf Copper & Manufacturing Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly retaliated against Miguel Ceja by terminating his employment shortly after his injuries, failed and refused to continue his medical care and benefits and failed to pay his LHWCA salary earned.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek actual damages in excess of $1 million and such other relief to which they may show themselves to be entitled. They are represented by Newton B. Schwartz Sr., Vincent K. Lo and Mabel Lee-Lo in Houston.
