Lawsuit: Amazon's Fire TV devices infringed '03 U.S. patent

Patents 01

MARSHALL – One of Amazon’s well-known products is alleged to have infringed a 15-year-old patent.

Recent Marshall federal court records show that Uniloc filed a lawsuit against the online shopping company on Mar. 22, claiming the defendant’s Fire TV line infringed U.S. Patent Number 6,580,422.

Uniloc asserts ownership of the ‘422 patent, entitled “Remote Computer Display Using Graphics Primitives Sent over a Wireless Link,” dating back to June 17, 2003.

Court papers explain that the subject patent pertains to portable computing devices that incorporate wireless transmitters and remote devices that receive video signals.

“Amazon has directly infringed, and continues to directly infringe one or more claims of the ’422 patent in the United States during the pendency of the ’422 patent, including at least claims 1 literally and/or under the doctrine of equivalents, by or through making, using, offering for sale and/or selling the accused infringing devices,” the original petition says.

Consequently, the plaintiff seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

James L. Etheridge of the Etheridge Law Group, PLLC in Southlake serves as Uniloc’s lead counsel.
