HOUSTON – A resident of Houston has filed suit against the city and its police department after he was bitten by a dog owned by the city.

Sixto Carillo Avila filed a complaint on April 13 in the Harris County District Court against the city of Houston and Houston Police Department alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 4, 2016, he was sitting outside his home in Houston when a dog owned and/or harbored by defendants bit his arm. He alleges suffered grave bodily injuries that resulted in permanent scarring and disability, pain and suffering, medical expenses and other financial losses.

The plaintiff holds the city of Houston and Houston Police Department responsible because they allegedly had knowledge of the dog's dangerous propensities to viciously attack and bite people and breached their duties to prevent the dog from inflicting bodily injuries.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $200,000 but not more than $1 million. He is represented by Husein Hadi, Jamil Thomas, Carnegie H. Mims III and Keyvon Alihossini of The Hadi Law Firm in Houston.
