HOUSTON – Anthony G. Buzbee of The Buzbee Law Firm has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a group of apartment tenants who claim they suffered massive property damage from a fire last September, according to recent Harris County District Court records.

The fire at issue occurred at The Lodge Apartments on Sept. 18, 2017, and court papers allege JAW Equity Management, LLC and JAW The Lodge, LLC failed to install mandatory smoke detectors in the complex’s units.

The blaze reportedly started in a family apartment occupied by a woman and her two children. An inoperable fire extinguisher in addition to the absence of smoke detectors caused the inferno to spread to and damage multiple units, the complaint says.

The tenant, Betzahida Vivero, ultimately lost her two-year-old daughter in the fire.

Consequently, the suit’s plaintiffs seek more than $1 million and a jury trial.
