HOUSTON – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. has been accused of selling a smartphone to a man which “suddenly and unexpectedly” caught fire.

Elmer Aguilar filed a product liability lawsuit against the consumer electronics subsidiary in the Harris County 281st District Court on Apr. 26.

Aguilar alleges Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was consumed in flames and left him with burn injuries last year.

The suit faults the defendant for placing the device in the stream of commerce without properly inspecting it.

Consequently, Aguilar seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Clyde J. “Jay” Jackson, III of the law firm Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Aziz in Houston is representing the complainant.
