Med student claims United Airlines flight attendant struck his head with overhead compartment, injury impeded career plans

HOUSTON – An out of state medical student has filed a lawsuit against two airlines after a head injury he sustained before a flight two years ago supposedly impeded his career plans.

Borhan Darmal’s suit, which was filed on May 4 in the Harris County 11th District Court, pins the injury on United Airlines, Inc. and Mesa Airlines, Inc.

Darmal says he was about to embark on the last leg of his journey to Harlingen at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in December 2016 when a flight attendant struck him with an overhead compartment.

According to the suit, the flight attendant did not aid the plaintiff though he was dazed and bleeding.

The original petition further asserts the injury negatively affected his ability to concentrate and answer simple questions. Darmal adds he did not “match” with any institution, to which court documents attribute to his unsuccessful residency interviews.

He says he faces a “bleak, ignominious future,” and the suit ultimately accuses United and Mesa of negligence.

Consequently, the complainant seeks more than $1 million in damages and a jury trial.

Brock Akers of The Akers Firm, PLLC in Houston is representing Darmal.
