HOUSTON – A local apartment tenant claims he was assaulted by a security guard during his child’s birthday party last year.
Brent Edwards filed a lawsuit against Houston Division Security Patrol, Inc. in response to the incident in question on May 9 in the Harris County 269th District Court.
According to Edwards, he was smoking a cigarette in his vehicle on June 9, 2017 when the unidentified guard pulled up behind him in a dark-colored, unmarked SUV with dark tinted windows.
Court papers say that the plaintiff feared for his safety and ran, stating John Doe gave chase and shot him with a Tazer.
“John Doe then proceeded to beat Mr. Edwards while he was defenseless and prone to the ground,” the suit says. “John Doe forcibly detained Mr. Edwards until police arrived.”
Houston police arrived and determined that the complainant committed no wrongdoing.
The unnamed guard joins his employer as a co-defendant in the case.
Consequently, Edwards seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
He is represented by Matthew M. Marzak and Maverick J. Ray of the law firm Maverick Ray & Associates in Houston.
