HOUSTON – A Florida woman who was in the city on business last year claims she was injured while riding a downtown escalator.

Sarasota, Fla. Resident Barbara Catlin filed a lawsuit against Lionstone Partners, LLC; Schindler Elevator Corp.; Midway Companies, LLC; and LVA4 Houston GreenStreet, LP in response to the Jan. 24, 2017 incident on May 10 in the Harris County 151st District Court.

The suit explains Catlin was taking the escalator to the third floor of GreenStreet when said escalator malfunctioned.

“There was a sudden and forceful grinding jolt, which caused the plaintiff and others to be thrown forward and backward,” court documents state. “The escalator then began reversing in a backward direction, at an increased speed, as people tried to get down off the malfunctioning escalator.”

Catlin alleges the event left her with injuries to her lower right leg.

She faults the defendants for knowing about the supposedly dangerous condition posed by the escalator but failing to take subsequent action to correct it.

Consequently, she seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Richard A. Hinojosa of Hinojosa Law, PLLC in Houston is representing the plaintiff.
