HOUSTON – A Montgomery County man has brought a wrongful termination lawsuit against Maverick Drilling and Exploration Ltd. and Freedom Production, Inc., accusing the defendants of firing him because of his age.

In court documents filed on May 21 in the Harris County 215th District Court, Texas Richards says the companies employed him as an oil field production manager until they made the position available in April 2016.

The defendants’ human resources department purportedly told Richards it knew nothing about posting.

The plaintiff, who was in his mid-60s at the time, further explains that he was then terminated and asked to sign a release of claims in exchange for a small severance, to which he refused.

“There was no good cause or reason to terminate his employment,” the original petition says.

Consequently, Richards seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

He is represented by Peter Costea of Houston.
