HOUSTON – A Harris County seaman alleges he was injured while working aboard a vessel because he was not provided adequate equipment for the job.
Arturo Cornejo filed a complaint on May 22 in the Harris County District Court against McDermott International Inc., McDermott Inc. and ALE Heavylift Inc. alleging negligence and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 6, 2015, he was performing his duties in the service of defendants' vessel when he was injured. He alleges he sustained severe and disabling injuries to his legs and lower abdominal area.
The plaintiff holds McDermott International Inc., McDermott Inc. and ALE Heavylift Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide adequate equipment, failed to adequately staff the vessel and failed allow him to take reasonable sleep and break time while working 50 hours straight.
The plaintiff seeks actual and exemplary damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, court costs and attorney's fees and such other and further relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by Marcus R. Spagnoletti and Eric J. Rhine of Spagnoletti & Co. in Houston.
