Woman alleges race was a factor in termination from Simplicity Financial Marketing

Wrongful term 06

HOUSTON – An African-American woman alleges she was unjustly demoted and later terminated by a The Woodlands employer because of her race.

Donna C. Darden filed a complaint on May 25 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Simplicity Financial Marketing Inc. alleging violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she was demoted by the defendant in March 2017 and that the defendant did not follow its own policy for write-ups in doing so. She alleges her pay was reduced from $43,000 to $36,000 and that she was eventually terminated in February.

The plaintiff holds Simplicity Financial Marketing Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly acted intentionally with a conscious disregard of her right to employment opportunities.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks punitive damages of more than $500,000 and all other relief as the court deems appropriate. She is representing herself.
