HOUSTON – A former employee of a Harris County medical center alleges she was treated differently because of her disability.
Tamika Craft-Demming filed a complaint on June 25 in the Harris County District Court against MD Anderson Cancer Center alleging violation of the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act.
According to the complaint, while the plaintiff was employed by the defendant, she applied for a minimum six-month leave as an accommodation in July 2016 for a medical condition. The suit states her request was denied and in January 2017, she was informed her position with the defendant was realigned. She alleges she was discriminated and retaliated against because of her disability.
The plaintiff holds MD Anderson Cancer Center responsible because the defendant allegedly treated her differently because of her disability and refused to engage in a good faith interactive process.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual, compensatory and punitive damages; plus interest; attorney's fees; costs and such other and further relief to which she is justly entitled. She is represented by Ellen Sprovach of Rosenberg Sprovach in Houston.
