HOUSTON - NFL star Stefon Diggs says a woman with whom he had a "casual relationship" tried to extort him with claims of abuse when she was actually the one who assaulted hm.
Diggs, now a wide receiver for the Houston Texans who has also played for the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, filed a lawsuit Feb. 26 in Harris County District Court against Mia Jones, also known as Mulan Hernandez, and Brianna Mack.
Jones was featured on the reality show "Basketball Wives: Orlando" and has 1 million followers on Instagram. She occasionally stayed at Diggs' downtown apartment, his suit says. On the morning of June 7, 2024, she showed up after a night of partying and "proceeded to assault Plaintiff and destroy his valuable property."
Jones went to two different medical care providers in the week that followed. The first time, complaining of nausea and vomiting, she denied physical abuse and said she had fell on a wet kitchen floor, the suit says.
Seven days later, she sought a different doctor and claimed she had been punched in the back of the head, the suit says. Mack was present at Diggs' apartment.
"In the weeks and months that followed, Jones and Mack, both individually and with the assistance of counsel, tried to use their newly spun tale of abuse to extort millions of dollars from Plaintiff. But Plaintiff has refused to bend to Defendants' extortionate conduct," the suit says.
"Said simply, Plaintiff brings this case because he will not be victimized by the attempts of Defendants to extort money from him."
Diggs said he was just trying to play video games when Jones began to berate him. He believes "alcohol and recreational drug use played a part in her manic behavior."
She slammed his video game console on the ground, Diggs says, then did the same to a $130,000 watch. She allegedly threw his cellphone in the toilet then punched him in the chest several times.
Ultimately, Mack supplied a "false" affidavit, while Jones said she was living with Diggs and five weeks pregnant during the altercation, Diggs said.
A letter from Jones' lawyer explained Jones sought a confidential settlement to "address her damages and avoid public disclosure." Diggs says they sought more than $1 million from him.
Kent Schaffer of Schaffer Kennedy Johnson represents Diggs, who is a four-time NFL pro-bowler with more than 10,000 career receiving yards.
